Flockers (2025) – Tabletop Game Soundtrack
Odd Bird Games
Flockers is a narrative-rich tabletop game in which players guide flocks of geese through serene landscapes, facing moments of peaceful unity, adventure, and subtle tension. Each scenario is inspired by natural behaviors—welcoming new birds, confronting territorial disputes, and the unique personalities found in a flock.
My Role:
I composed the entire soundtrack, crafting six bespoke tracks: a signature title theme (“Birds of a Feather”) and four narrative pieces. Each track is inspired by a short storyline provided by the game’s creator, Mark Swanson. The music palette balances moody, ethereal textures with melodic new age and meditative sounds, supporting the evolving emotions of each gameplay scene.
The sound design ranges from gentle, ambient motifs for moments of unity and calm, to subtle dissonances and rhythmic tension for conflict-driven chapters (“Birds of a Feather,” “Unwelcome Guest”). I designed each track to enhance the storytelling atmosphere and provide a sense of narrative progression—mirroring the emotional arc of the flock’s journey.
Implementation:
Music is used both as a gameplay enhancement and as exclusive digital rewards for the game’s crowdfunding campaign backers, with select tracks featured as unlockable “stretch goals.” The process required adapting my interactive game music approach to a tabletop context, focusing on immersive, loopable compositions that don’t dominate but elevate the tabletop experience.
